Learn the art of traditional 18th century center seam moccasin making! In observation of Native American Heritage Month, The Portal will host a moccasin making workshop instructed by Allison Foster, Abbigail Simmerson, and Taylor Moyer who are proud members of the Black Swamp Intertribal Foundation.
Center seam moccasins were the footwear of choice by the Myaamiaki (Miami) and Odawa (Ottawa) who lived along the banks of the Maumee River in downtown Toledo for centuries. Those who take this workshop will learn how to make their very own custom pair of deer hide moccasins in the traditional eastern woodland style. When the course concludes everyone will be able to walk out the door in their own pair!
This program will help individuals gain appreciation for the ingenuity and artistry of the First Nations peoples who were truly the first artists in the Toledo region.
Registrations must be made by October 16th. The class will be canceled and full refunds will be issued if the minimum number of registrations is not met by that date.

Registrations can be canceled for a full refund up to one week before the registration cut off (October 16th). Less than a week in advance, registration fees are non-refundable.
