Drawing and Painting in the Garden with Jules: August 22 | 10am - 1pm

$60.00

August 22 | 10am - 1pm
Age 18+

Join Jules Webster for an informative workshop that will introduce the basics of painting on-site in a garden. This class will take place at The Portal at Toledo School for the Arts to coincide with Where the Flowers Lead, an exhibition of garden themed artworks and plant installation in the gallery of works by Jules and Allison Clements.

In this workshop, Jules will explain how to create a preparatory value sketch, use basic perspective, draw in basic garden details and paint with watercolor. We'll then go outside if conditions allow and paint outside in the TSA courtyard. In case of inclement weather, we'll draw inside from the plants in the gallery.

Students will leave this course with a "loose" garden painting on paper, and the knowledge of how to edit down the complexity of a garden in their minds, and the courage to try again on their own. We'll also discuss how to select and pack portable art materials to take "on the go" and how to simplify your tool kit for travel. All materials will be provided by the instructor. Students should be prepared to be outside for 2 hours. Pre-applied sunscreen, a sun hat, appropriate clothing, water bottle, peanut-free snack, and any other materials required by participants to be comfortable outdoors are suggested.
